Aurora veBook software announcement

Aurora Information Technology is proud to announce the first release of Aurora veBook which provides library users with direct access to the library’s eBook collection where the collection consists of remote or locally housed eBooks.   veBook allows searching and browsing as well as index browsing for maximum flexibility and utilizes the Aurora Image Service to provide the eBook cover images.

Once a library user is logged in, they are able to download eBooks at their leisure. Users are also able to interact with an eBook via QR Code, social sharing tools and can submit a rating and review on any of the eBooks in the collection.

Aurora Trove Services (ATS) software has passed testing by the National Library of Australia

The Aurora Trove Services (ATS) software has successfully passed testing by the National Library of Australia (NLA) for metadata harvesting of digital image collections held by Aurora customers for display within the Trove Image collection http://trove.nla.gov.au

ATS has been developed by AIT in compliance with the international standard OAI-PMH DC version two, and is aimed specifically at the Dublin Core international OAI standard, while also maintaining compatibility with NLA's 2009 extended standard (recently deprecated).

Web links to the Leichhardt Library Service digital collection on Trove will be provided shortly.  Please contact AIT for ATS pricing details.

Memo: Aurora Desktop on Microsoft Surface tablets

Microsoft is releasing a tablet called Microsoft Surface and initially, it cannot be used to run normal windows applications.  There is good news though. Microsoft have confirmed, that at the end of this year, a second version of the Surface tablet will be released that can run windows applications and we will be pursuing this actively to ensure that Aurora Desktop will be fully compatible with this new tablet.  In the meantime though, AIT do have a mobile OPAC for smart devices and also an iPad application which will be released to the Apple AppStore for library managers to monitor their library operations from their iPads, in real-time, while out and about.

As an aside to this, we do have a client currently using Aurora Desktop on the Samsung Slate with Windows7 and 3G connection. So there are alternatives currently available if mobility is a priority immediately.
