Microsoft is releasing a tablet called
Microsoft Surface and initially, it cannot be used
to run normal windows applications. There is good news though. Microsoft
have confirmed, that at the end of this year, a second version of the Surface
tablet will be released that can run windows applications and we will be
pursuing this actively to ensure that Aurora Desktop will be fully compatible
with this new tablet. In the meantime though, AIT do have a mobile OPAC
for smart devices and also an iPad application which will be released to the
Apple AppStore for library managers to monitor their library operations from
their iPads, in real-time, while out and about.
As an aside to this, we do have a client currently using Aurora Desktop on the Samsung Slate with Windows7 and 3G connection. So there are alternatives currently available if mobility is a priority immediately.
